The Diocese of Rockford administers the ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills) in the fall to children in grades 3, 5, and 7.   The primary purpose of the ITBS tests is instructional development.  We use the standardized achievement tests to learn supplementary information useful in choosing curriculum planning.  The tests may suggest to teachers areas where the skills of individual students are most and least developed.

The benchmark testing in reading and math is the Riverside Insights Flex test, given three times a year- September, December, and May. The test data is used to determine placement and areas for remediation.

St. Mary School also administers benchmark testing using the Fountas and Pinnell test. This test helps determine a child’s independent and instructional reading levels.  Results are used by teachers to help best work with each child and determine how best to differentiate their educational plan. Options to have children tested between scheduled tests are available.   Results are sent home for parent review and are used by the teachers to assess growth.
